History

ITNMontereyCounty emerged from a Leadership Monterey Peninsula Class 2010 Service Project. Todd Muck led the Leadership Monterey Peninsula team that included Angela Nascar, Janice Wynn, and Anthony Trujillo. The team initially met with various nonprofit organizations and public agencies that serve the local senior community to confirm there weren't existing services that provided this service to our community's seniors. The group also extensively researched successful programs for senior mobility around the country. The Leadership Monterey Peninsula team chose to become an affiliate of an organization with an innovative approach to senior mobility, the Independent Transportation Network America®.

Since completing the Leadership Monterey Peninsula program, some of the project team, along with other local leaders, transitioned into a Board of Directors for ITNMontereyCounty. Many of the components needed to start providing trips were in place. Almost $100,000 had been raised, primarily through grants from Monterey County Area Agency on Aging, Monterey Peninsula Foundation, and Episcopal Senior Communities. With continued help and assistance from the community, ITNMontereyCounty started service in January 2012. and obtained its 501(c)3 status in July, 2012.
